Working to an established railway industry process, UWR has launched a formal study of the anticipated scope of the UWR project. The intention is to prepare a quantified justification of the scheme that can form the basis for further development of the project, in particular for gathering the necessary public and financial support. In addition, the outcomes will provide a starting point for the necessary detailed feasibility study. This initial scoping study is using a “Gate Process” that has been specifically tailored for the evaluation of developments of railway infrastructure. The study also will take account of the Network Rail Governance for Railway Infrastructure Projects (GRIP) guidelines. Work has already commenced and the small UWR team is conducting fact-finding and background research. As work progresses on the scoping study, we will be seeking assistance from others already familiar with this process and professional peer review will be sought and encouraged. The key findings of the scoping study will be summarised on this website and communicated via an occasional e-mail newsletter to people who’ve registered an interest.
