As already publicised, UWR’s scheme for the reinstatement of the railway to Hawes envisages a train service extending beyond Clitheroe on the Ribble Valley route, to join the Settle Carlisle line, then continuing to Garsdale and the reinstated branch line to Hawes. The UWR team was thus pleased to learn that Ribble Valley Borough Council’s (RVBC) application to the first round of the DfT’s “Ideas Fund” has succeeded and that work is underway to develop a business case for extending the Manchester to Clitheroe service to Hellifield, onto the Settle Carlisle line and potentially as far as Garsdale. We look forward to further good news on the development of their scheme.
